The Health & Safety-Team within the head office provides advice and actively supports those involved in an emergency. At the same time, the Health & Safety-Team represents Experiment within and outside the association in this area and is committed to training, awareness-raising and further development.

During the course of a program, emergencies can occur. Our emergency flyer lists all contact persons who are available to assist our participants.

For acute emergencies, Experiment has an emergency hotline that is staffed around the clock by a full-time employee. They all speak English. The number is also reachable by WhatsApp.

Please do not hesitate to call this number if a solution cannot be found by the office hours of the office in Bonn and:

• there is a danger to life and limb that someone in Germany can better help with than locally
• your situation cannot be resolved locally (e.g. by calling the emergency number of the local partner organization)

Are you in a psychosocial emergency? Then please contact the trained specialist staff of the "Netzwerk für psychosoziale Notfallversorgung" (PSNV) network - either by phone or via mail.

This contact point is not affiliated with Experiment or our partners. It offers you professional help that is independent of the Experiment program.

Psychosocial emergencies are situations in which something has happened that is very stressful for you. This includes, for example, if you have witnessed an accident or experienced violence of any kind, if you have experienced a natural disaster or serious political unrest.

If you would like to speak to someone from Experiment but do not necessarily want to get in touch with your contact person, you can get in touch with our confidential advisors via mail.

Your email will be sent to our specially trained full-time and / or volunteer confidential advisors. They have many contacts to further services to ensure that those affected receive further care, and are also available as contact persons for our participants.

Important: Our confidants have a lot of experience with difficult situations. However, they are not psychologists. We therefore have a network of external specialists who we consult in situations where we feel it is important for your protection.

Our international Code of Good Practice contains important prevention and protection measures. It serves Experiment and its international partners as a basis for all programs in which participants live with host families during their program participation.

All full-time and volunteer staff receive specific training on the topic of health and safety. In addition, all participants receive training and have local contact persons who look after them during their exchange. They are independent of their host family, the project or the school.

In 2006, the eight exchange organizations of our umbrella organization AJA founded the Prevention of Sexualized Violence Network ("Netzwerk Prävention gegen sexualisierte Gewalt"). Since its foundation, the participating organizations have worked closely together in this working group to protect their participants from sexualized violence in the best possible way. They prepare them before their departure or after their arrival and support them in the event of physical, sexual or emotional abuse and violence. Through the network and the joint exchange of experiences, we are constantly improving our prevention work. Among other things, the Prevention Network has jointly developed a declaration of commitment for host families in Germany and organizes events to train volunteers. In this way, we are constantly improving our prevention work and the network to protect our participants.
