Experiment e.V. started a trend in the 80’s when it brought the “Au Pair USA Programme” to life. Many countries followed suit. Around the world, as well in Germany, the number of au-pair agencies grew steadily. But in the mid-90’s, we noticed a change in the profile of our participants. Nowadays, few people are prepared to spend an entire year as a fulltime babysitter, willing to apply half a year in advance and then remain in the dark for a long time about the actual starting date and destination. Changes had to be introduced in order to reflect the evolving needs of today’s participants. Introducing the Demi-Pair programme! Experiment’s solution is a programme in large cities that offers our participants the chance to combine the experience of living in a family with a greater range of entertainment and cultural opportunities. Our Demi-Pair programme currently takes place in: • New Zealand – in Wellington, the capital city.
• Australia – in Brisbane & on the Gold Coast, offering wonderful weather all year long.
• Ecuador – in Quito, the capital city high up in the Sierras.
• Kanada – in Toronto, Canada's biggest city
Our participants are young - between 18 and 30 years of age - dynamic, open and eager to learn. They all have the desire to learn and/or perfect their English or Spanish, enjoy caring for and interacting with children, and are also willing to help with housework. The participants themselves determine the programme’s start date and duration. At the start of the programme they attend language courses at an institution with an excellent reputation, wherever possible one that is also certified and internationally acknowledged. Host families are selected after careful screening. Childcare and housework duties total only about 20 or 25 hours per week.
