Every German male citizen has to go through either a 9 month military service or 10 months of civil service at a social institution in Germany. There is, however, also the possibility to spend 11 months abroad. The Department for the Civil Service has strong regulations on which projects are valued as equal to civil service in Germany. Experiment e.V. is a registered organization to send young Germans abroad to projects in three countries. Since 2006 we have been able to offer two teaching projects in Ecuador. Recently we were able to add 12 positions in cooperation with a social organization and EIL Chile in Chile and five positions at a food bank in Argentina from October 2007 on. After spending some time in the main cities of the respective country to improve (in Ecuador one can also have very basic Spanish skills) the language at a language school and to gain insight into the country's culture and traditions through an introductory course, the participants will spend 10 months in the project working 40 hours a week. They also have a total of 28 days of vacation which can be taken either en bloc at the end of their service or during their stay - always in close coperation with the project. Participants have to give a number of reports about the progress of their project and their activities during the year. The participation in the program costs a total of 3650 Euros.
